Chronicling Our Sport's Great History

The Keeneland Library is one of racing's most valuable assets. It is a great reservoir of the past and an essential key to the future.”  -- Joe Hirsch, retired Executive Columnist, Daily Racing Form

  • The Keeneland Library contains more than 10,000 volumes, 1,500 videocassettes, 225,000 photo negatives and 3,000 files containing thousands of newspaper clippings.
  • You are welcome to look at many of the books as well as dozens of scrapbooks chronicling our sport's history; however, the Keeneland Library is a reference-only, non-circulating library.
  • The Keeneland Library was established in 1939 when Keeneland trustee and director Arnold Hanger acquired and donated the carefully selected Turf library of Robert Turnbull. This 2,300-volume collection formed the nucleus of the modern Keeneland Library.
  • In April 2000, Daily Racing Form contributed its entire archival collection to the Keeneland Library. The donation included nearly every edition of Daily Racing Form ever published and nearly every edition of the American Racing Manual, dating back to 1896.
  • The Keeneland Library is open year-round Monday through Friday, except for major holidays.
