Local Handicappers Dominate Keeneland’s Grade One Gamble Contest

Chuck Grubbs of Paris is well-known as an accomplished harness handicapper. On Sunday, he stepped into the competitive realm of thoroughbred handicapping contests and bested 49 of the top horseplayers in the country to take home the $16,000 first prize plus his bankroll in Keeneland’s fourth annual Grade One Gamble contest.
Keeneland Sales Grads Dominate Entries for Florida, Louisiana Derbies

LEXINGTON, KY (March 30, 2012) – Keeneland sales alumni comprise the majority of entries for both Saturday’s Florida Derby (G1) and Sunday’s Louisiana Derby (G2). Six of the nine sophomores going postward in the Florida Derby are Keeneland sales graduates, led by Risen Star (G3) winner El Padrino, the highly regarded Take Charge Indy and Gulfstream Park Derby winner Reveron. The entry of Mr. Bowling and Mark Valeski, both Keeneland sales alumni, are morning-line favorites in the Louisiana Derby. Ten of the 14 horses entered in the Louisiana Derby are Keeneland sales graduates.
