$125,000 Bourbon (G3)
Kent Desormeaux (rider of winner Interactif)
“The only fearful moments I had (came in the) the first 40 yards leaving the gate. He leapt like a Quarter Horse. He was just looking straight down the track and wanted to run. After that moment in time, he came back to me and got in a nice canter and tried to inch to the leaders. He was attentive to me after that, and, of course, he can really, really run so I’m lucky to have the mount.”
Todd Pletcher (trainer of winner Interactif)
On versatility Interactif has shown so far in his career
“The great thing about winning first time out going five-eighths (of a mile) is we know he’s got a big turn of foot. Just trying to get him to settle, teach him how to run a proper turf race. I was a little worried about the ground today; he’s never run on soft ground, but he handled that well, also. We’re really excited about him.”
On whether he thought Interactif was a turf horse
“No. He broke his maiden first time out on the dirt. We ran him back in the Sanford (G2) at Saratoga, and he kinda got involved in a speed duel. We weren’t sure what to do after that. I worked him on the grass one morning at Saratoga, and I knew what to do after that.”
On whether there are Breeders’ Cup plans for Interactif
“That’s what we hope for.”
Mark Hubley (trainer of second-place finisher Codoy)
“We were always looking at this race. I hoped he would have broken his maiden sooner but he ran against some good horses. It looked like he was going to go wide in the first turn so he (jockey Leandro Goncalves) took him back and tried to give him a good trip. He was kind of boxed in on the backside. I’m pretty happy.”
On the Breeders’ Cup:
“I don’t know. We’ll have to wait and see.”
Leandro Goncalves (rider of Codoy)
“He broke sharp. I was trying to get him four or five off the pace, but they started to squeeze in and I didn’t want to get him in trouble. I took him back. I was going to get outside down the backside. That’s when Kent Desormeaux (on winner Interactif) passed me and he held me in there a little while. I decided to follow Kent; that’s the horse I had to beat. But at the three-eighths when Kent asked, his horse had quick speed and got away from me. If we could have made our move at the same time, we might have won. He’s a nice horse.”
Junior Alvarado (rider of third-place finisher Family Foundation)
“The track is really soft from the five path in, but he ran okay over it. I tried to go with the four horse (winner Interactif) when he went, but he (Family Foundation) just didn’t have enough. He still ran well though. I don’t know about the Breeders’ Cup. But he felt nice today and he belongs with those types of horses. If they send him, I hope I’m aboard.”
Jesus Castanon (rider of fourth-place finisher Raging Wit)
“I had a real good trip, but he got a little tired. When the favorite (Interactif) came after me at the quarter pole, he dug in and tried, but I knew it wasn’t to be. My horse kept trying, but he was getting tired already.”
