Nearly 200 Stakes Winners, 21 Grade/Group I Victors in 2010 From Premier Auction

Keeneland has cataloged 4,857 horses for its 2010 September Yearling Sale, to be held Sunday, September 12 through Sunday, September 26. This year’s auction will feature a new format – kicked off by a two-evening select portion of the sale –  designed to better serve Keeneland’s customers in today’s dynamic marketplace.

“Our industry mourns the loss of Graham Beck today. He was a great businessman, competitor and horseman. He lived life to the fullest and was a joy to be around. He loved Gainesway Farm and was an incredible steward of the land. More importantly, though, he was wonderful human being who fostered great devotion and admiration among those who were associated with him. His generosity touched many and will be a significant part of his legacy. Our thoughts go out to his wife Rhona, his son Antony and their family during this difficult time.”

Keeneland September Yearling Sales graduates shone on the national stage this weekend. Glencrest Farm’s Devil May Care captured Saratoga’s Betfair TVG Coaching Club American Oaks (G1), while Tom and Marilyn Braly’s Evening Jewel won the San Clemente Handicap (G2) at Del Mar. Alumni of the 2009 September Sale, led by Carolyn and Karen Scisney’s Maybesomaybenot, finished 1-2-3 in Grade 2 Sanford Stakes.

Nicholson Addresses Action Of Kentucky Horse Racing Commission

LEXINGTON, Ky. (July 20, 2010) – Keeneland President and CEO Nick Nicholson issued the following statement today regarding a decision by the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission regarding pari-mutuel wagering on historical races:

            “Keeneland supports today’s move by the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission regarding pari-mutuel wagering on historical races. We appreciate the commission’s commitment to Kentucky’s signature industry and Gov. Beshear’s continued leadership on these issues. The reason is simple: this new pari-mutuel wager would be another tool that we could use to help generate additional revenue to boost purses and assist our industry during an extremely challenging period.

That’s the sole reason for our support.

Keeneland Sales Alumni Win Grade 1 Stakes on Both Coasts

Dual Eclipse Award winner and Keeneland September Sale graduate Gio Ponti successfully defended his title in Belmont’s  Grade 1 Man o’ War Stakes on Saturday, running down pacesetter Mission Approved to prevail by a neck. The same day, E Z’s Gentleman, a graduate of the January Horses of All Ages Sale, took the Grade 1 Triple Bend Handicap at Hollywood Park.
