Always within striking distance under jockey Javier Castellano, Get Stormy took the lead in mid stretch and pulled away to a 1 ½-length victory in the $125,000, Grade 3 Bryan Station Stakes Sunday at Keeneland.
It was the third consecutive victory for the invader from New York, who ran the one mile on the “yielding” turf in 1:37.49. He received $75,000 for the win, increasing his career earnings to $207,559 for Mary A. Sullivan’s Sullimar Stables.
“I handicapped this race; there was a little speed in the race,” said Castellano. “I just left him close to the pace and he responded very well today.”
Rescue Squad rallied from next-to-last in the field of eight 3-year-olds to be second, a length in front of favored Kinsella. It was a neck back to fourth-place Major Marvel.
Get Stormy, a son of Storm Atlantic, paid $13, $5.60 and $3.40 as the fourth choice in the wagering. Rescue Squad returned $5.40 and $3.80 and Kinsella paid $3.40 to show.
It was the third win of the afternoon for Castellano. He won the third race aboard Unspoken Word ($8.60) and the sixth race atop Floating Heart ($16.40).
Get Stormy is trained by Thomas Bush.
