Watch the stretch run
Indescribable returned from a five-month layoff to win the $100,000, Grade 3 Doubledogdare Stakes Friday at Keeneland.
The 5-year-old daughter of Pleasant Tap took the lead from pacesetter Awesome Ashey with a quarter of a mile remaining and gradually pulled away to a 2 ¼-length victory.
She ran the 1 1/16 miles on the fast Polytrack in 1:42.40 and gave jockey Kent Desormeaux his third win of the afternoon. Indescribable had been away from the races since winning the Cardinal Stakes (G3) on turf at Churchill Downs in November.
“She must have enjoyed her vacation and came back strong,” said Desormeaux. “It was a powerful effort. I turned for home full of run. Mr. (trainer Bill) Mott had her ready. I had an enjoyable ride.”
Serenading finished second in the field of eight fillies and mares. She was 2 ¼ lengths in front of third-place Tejida. It was a neck back to fourth-place Miss Isella
Indescribable won for the sixth time in 17 career starts and earned $62,000 for Donald Adam’s Courtland Farms. She paid $5.40 as the 17-10 favorite.
The 10-race program, run under sunny skies, drew 21,953 people, marking the second highest attendance for a Friday in the spring in Keeneland history.
