Graduates of Keeneland’s 2007 September Yearling Sale continue to rule in the nation’s top classic prep races.
Justwhistledixie established herself as a contender for the Kentucky Oaks (G1) with a 3 ¾-length win in Sunday’s Grade 2 Davona Dale Stakes at Gulfstream. The Dixie Union filly, a winner in four of six career starts, was purchased for $425,000 by Buzz Chace, agent, from consignor Hermitage Farm LLC. She is owned by the partnership of West Point Thoroughbreds, Lakland Farm and R. Dee Hubbard.
Justwhistledixie’s half-brother by Pleasantly Perfect (Hip #50) is consigned to Keeneland’s April Two-Year-Olds in Training Sale, to be held April 6-7. He is consigned by Wavertree Stable Inc., agent.
Quality Road and Proceed Bee took two of the weekend’s leading Kentucky Derby (G1) preps.
Quality Road convincingly handled a field that included some of the nation’s best three-year-old colts in the Fountain of Youth Stakes (G2) on Saturday at Gulfstream. It was the second win in three career starts for the son of Elusive Quality, who races in the colors of breeder Edward P. Evans. Quality Road was consigned by Lane’s End, agent, to the 2007 September Sale.
Proceed Bee was forced to rally five wide on the turn to win Saturday’s John Battaglia Memorial Stakes at Turfway Park and earn his way into Kentucky Derby contention. Owner William Stiritz bought the Bernstein gelding for $40,000 at Keeneland’s September Sale, where he was consigned by Hunter Valley Farm, agent.
