Keeneland sale alumni are off to a fast start on the Triple Crown trail, represented by major prep winners Stardom Bound, Pioneerof the Nile, Capt. Candyman Can, Friesan Fire, Saratoga Sinner, and Haynesfield. All were graduates of Keeneland’s 2007 September Yearling Sale.

  • Stardom Bound, last year’s champion juvenile filly, won her season debut in Saturday’s Las Virgenes Stakes (G1) at Santa Anita. The Tapit filly was consigned to the September Sale by Legacy Bloodstock, agent, and purchased for $50,000 by Michael Yates. She is owned by IEAH Stables, Paul Pompa Jr., Michael Dubb & Golden Goose Enterprises LLC and trained by Bobby Frankel.

  • Also on Saturday at Santa Anita, Pioneerof the Nile captured the Robert B. Lewis Stakes (G2). The Empire Maker colt was consigned to the September Sale by Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency, agent. He is owned by Zayat Stables LLC and trained by Bob Baffert.

  • Friesan Fire, a son of A.P. Indy, took the Risen Star Stakes (G3) at Fair Grounds. Trained by Larry Jones, Friesan Fire was consigned to the September Sale by Vinery Ltd, who co-owns the colt with Fox Hill Farm.

  • Haynesfield, winner of Aqueduct’s Whirlaway Stakes, is a graduate of Keeneland’s September Sale and its 2008 April Two-Year-Olds in Training Sale. In September, Haynesfield was consigned by Denali Stud, agent, and purchased for $100,000 by WinStar Farm, agent for Maverick Racing. Vision Racing LLC paid $20,000 for the Speightstown colt at the April Sale, where he was consigned by Eddie Woods, agent. He is owned by Turtle Bird Stable and trained by Steve Asmussen.

Last weekend at Gulfstream Park, Keeneland sale graduates Capt Candyman Can and Saratoga Sinner won the Hutcheson Stakes (G2) and Holy Bull Stakes (G3), respectively. Owners Joseph Rauch and David Zell bought Capt. Candyman Can for $25,000 from consignor Lantern Hill Farm LLC, agent, at the 2007 September Sale. He is trained by Ian Wilkes.

Saratoga Sinner was purchased by Doug Phalin for $130,000 at the September Sale from consignor Brereton C. Jones/Airdrie Stud, agent. The colt also was offered at the November Sale. He is owned by Lally Stable and trained by Eddie Kenneally.
