Queen Joanne took the lead at the top of the stretch and posted a half-length victory in the featured $54,000 Dogwood Purse Friday at Keeneland.
The 4-year-old daughter of Mr. Greeley ran the 1 1/16 miles on the Polytrack in 1:43.82 and paid $6.20 as the favorite in the field of nine 3- and 4-year-old fillies.
The race originally was scheduled for one mile on the turf but was moved off the grass because of rain and soft conditions.
Trensa finished second, 1 ¾ lengths in front of third-place Show Place. It was another 1 ½ lengths back to fourth-place Geeg. Magic Tune broke awkwardly at the start, unseating apprentice jockey Diego Rodriguez.
Rodriguez was not injured and Magic Tune chased the field around the track, apparently uninjured.
Queen Joanne is owned by Zayat Stables and trained by William Mott. She won for the third time in 11 starts and increased her earnings to $158,203 with the winner’s purse of $33,723.
